ECOBUNKERS
YBL Ecobunkers have numerous advantages over concrete and other forage storage systems.
YBL Ecobunkers use waste tyre casings, a product which is environmentally and socially desirable. They are sourced locally and are impervious to the acidity produced by silage fermentation. Logistics and construction are simple requiring basic machinery operated by semi skilled personnel.
In the event damage repairs are easily carried out with replacement of structural components only. Durability is exceptional, the inaugural bunkers constructed in 1997 have retained their structural integrity without sagging or deterioration, even with silage stacking equipment traveling on the wall caps. This is a performance requirement designed into YBL
Ecobunkers.
YBL Ecobunkers main advantages come out in use. Our walls have a 1.5-2m wide top on them. This allows storage space for tires and covers etc. It also provides a surface where an efficient seal can be created for the covers. The walls are not hard and will not damage expensive equipment in the event of accidental collision. On the other hand, walls will not crack or chip.
YBL Ecobunkers are safe. All walls are sloped. In the unlikely event of a person and/or machine transversing the 1.5meter wall cap and falling off the edge they will slide down on a 2/1 slope rather than taking a vertical fall.
With a walkway along walls there is no need to climb the stack or walls and risk injury or damage covers. Ends can be provided with a stairway to provide safe access. The entire structures have no hard or sharp edges to injure or damage personnel, livestock or equipment.

YBL Ecobunkers are economical, in this case. A bunker of 1500 meter capacity could save you:-
A/ Approximately $1,000.00 annually in silage covers i.e. 1500 ton in a bun would require 3 at 50 x 12m covers at $542.00 each a cost of $1626.00. A bunker would use one and part of another cost $650.40.
B/ A bun of 1500 hundreds tons has a surface area of 1800m2 if you had a spoilage of 50mm. This would be 90m3 or 21,000 kg/Dm at 20 cents = $4,200.00. This does not include silage lost to soil contamination and aeration at the face which would be double this figure to $8,400.00.
C/ In a concrete bunker an expensive narrow wall, where the covers are jammed against or draped over the structure leaving a joint that water and air will most certainly enter. The equivalent surface losses would be 36m2 or 8,300 kg/Dm = $1,600.00. Using a YBL ECOBUNKER this figure would be zero as the 1.5 meter wide wall cap provides the ultimate sealing medium.

Annually YBL ECOBUNKER saves you:-
A) in cover costs $1,000.00
B) in silage losses. $8,400.00
Total $9,400.00
YBL ECOBUNKER average costs for Canterbury area. 1650m3, or 550,000kg/Dm capacity.
To excavate material (earth) for walls and strip floor. *$3,880.00
To place hardfill and compact subgrade for floor. $1,100.00
To construct walls, provide materials (tires)
2.5 high x 60m long with a 1.5 meter cap. $13,600.00
To supply and lay a rock floor 150mm thick. $4,250.00
Total: $22,830.00

*(This price is for fill to be excavated either side of the walls).
