PLOUGHING
The YBL line up all use Kvernland no.8 bottoms. The bottoms are widely used and accepted as the best for all Canterbury soil conditions as well as being superior performers, they are economical to operate with parts available from a multitude of sources.

All YBL ploughs are on land configuration; this allows the retention of dual wheels. This facilitates superior traction and flotation in adverse conditions, it also prevents tyre damage from rocks and rubbing on the furrow wall. Another issue with ploughing in furrow is the front axle must be set to the same inside width as the rear axle to maintain a correct line of draft on larger 4WD tractors. Narrow front axles settings can severely restrict maneuverability.

An on land plough also maintains its trim regardless of tractor attitude because of the front wheel, extra length and the swingle in the draw beam means no lateral forces are transmitted through the tractor hitch upsetting tractive effort and reducing field efficiency.

Although the use of ploughs as primary tillage tools has declined over the years, YBL will be retaining mould board ploughs for the future as in many cases they are the best tool for the task and good ploughing is an extremely satisfying and enjoyable task.

The John Deere Auto Reset System

 John Deere 2800

Primary ploughs are John Deere 2800 6 & 7 furrow on land vari width machine, equipped with the John Deere exclusive auto resets system that allows the furrow to either trip back if hooked or slide over large obstacles.

JD 4600

4600 Reversible Plough

The third unit is the John Deere 4600 6 furrow reversible on land plough. After looking at numerous European and American reversible designs, YBL found the 4600 one of the few units that allowed 12m non stop headlands with on land capability with dual wheels, this unit allows us to get the best out of our tractors.

Other features are 18 inch furrow width, 2.7m working width and safety trip legs. This machine was purchased primarily for ploughing boarderdyked land as there are no finishes or strike outs to upset critical levels, but is also ideally suited for most ploughing applications where finishes and strike out are not desired or the field is an odd or difficult shape.

FURROW PRESS

Vaderstad Rollex 620, 6m Cambridge Roller
YBL utilise this machine because not everyone wants a press. YBL regard a plough mounted press as often an extra problem to move not only in field but also on road as current NZTA regulations only allow 2 simple trailers behind a tractor. Therefore moving a  plough, press and vehicle together is not practical in NZ.

YBL offer their 6m rollex with levelling boards as an alternative with superior levelling and packing performance to conventional presses.

MAXITILL

Vaderstad NZF Favorit 6m
This machine is the ultimate seed bed preparation tool, equipped with four rows of vibraflex tynes spaced at 90mm and front levelling boards and a rear finger tyne harrow. Usually no more than 2 passes are required to prepare ploughed ground for sowing.
This machine is also equipped with a rear draw bar and hydraulic outlets to facilitate the drawing of 6m rollex behind this combination making it a true one pass seed bed preparation tool.

Nobilo BNG 310

Before mulching

After mulching

MULCHING
A Nobilo BNG 310 3m rear mount and mulcher carries out YBLs mulching requirements. This machine is equipped with a special custom heavy rotor, chain curtain and hammer flails, making it capable of handling crop residue to heavy scrub for land development.

Ripping
Compaction can stunt your crops and obstruct yields. Deep tilling with YBLs 910 V Ripper increases the root zone for better moisture absorption as well as accelerating root zone drainage.

Special features include YBLs own design parralletic  rear hitch, for towing additional implements behind such as discs, mulchtiller, rollers etc

YBLs own design sweep boots. For quick conversion to standard ripper boots available in a variety of widths to suit any customer requirements.

Ripping is a must for maize growers and farmers whose fields  have extensive pugging damage. In extreme compaction caused by earth movers, old tracks or yards YBL offer the industrial Heavy Duty Ripper mounted on their John Deere 772A grader.

Discing

YBLs Quivogne AP-28 71x7-26 offset discs. They feature 80 mm shafts, 28inch x 7mm blades, an exclusive hydraulic levelling system, heavy-duty frame and drawbar.
This machine was selected for its robust construction and large disc diameter to cope with YBL’s customers increasing demand for land development. The 3.65 mm working width is large enough to deliver good production without bridging or overloading the tractor in extreme conditions. Width was also specified to match the 910 V Ripper to minimise passes when breaking scrub and tussock to incorporating heavy crop residues.

714 Mulch Tiller

A recent addition to the fleet, the mulch tiller is proving popular as a ploughing alternative, lower fuel burn and faster stubble incorperation are the key drivers for the demand for this machine.

Another use for this robust tillage tool is breaking up and remixing leaky irrigation resivior liners the swept shovels do a remarkable job of reincorperating fines for the smooth drum roller to finish.

Combos
Vaderstad NZ favourite maxitill and Rollex 620 a one pass furrow to seed bed tool with 6m working width and levelling boards on both units - this system sorts out tough furrows, bull holes, old fence lines, turf sods and undulations fast.

John Deere 910 V Ripper and Quivogne AP discs.

This combo is a tough comination. It was developed by YBL for extreme trash capability and maximum impact on the toughest tussock, crop residue, compaction, or just the oldest and toughest pasture Canterbury has to offer!

Another variety on this combo instead of the discs the 910 can be tandemed with YBLs 23 coil tyne grubber – this machine was designed by Jan Yeatman in 1967 to accommodate 6 inch tyne spacing to offer maximum soil shatter with the 910 with swept boots this combo is a real minimum tillage concept.
If additional pulverisation is required this rig can go triple with the Quivogne AP either centre or rear pulled.
YBL have the skills, technology and equipment to put combinations together for just about everything.
